Foshan Aier Eye Hospital Successfully Performs Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) Implantation

Release time: Jan 13,2026

Recently, Foshan Aier Eye Hospital (Headquarters) has successfully completed its first Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) Implantation, which was performed by President He Jinxian. The surgery successfully helped 56-year-old patient Ms. Liang preserve her right eyeball. This cutting-edge technology brings new hope to patients suffering from severe retinal detachment, ocular trauma, silicone oil-dependent eyes, as well as young and appearance-conscious individuals afflicted with serious fundus diseases. It plays a crucial role in eyeball salvage, and there are only a handful of specialists with clinical experience in performing this procedure across Foshan City.
Seven years ago, 56-year-old Ms. Liang underwent vitrectomy combined with silicone oil tamponade for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment at another hospital. Unfortunately, her eyesight failed to recover, leaving her with no light perception in the affected eye ever since. What was more distressing was that she experienced persistent eye redness and pain over the past month, accompanied by a marked elevation in intraocular pressure.

Faced with this complex clinical condition, the expert team of fundus diseases at Foshan Aier Eye Hospital (Headquarters) conducted a comprehensive examination on Ms. Liang. Given that the patient had been in a state of no light perception for years and had developed neovascular glaucoma, traditional treatment options posed significant challenges. The medical team decided to adopt a staged treatment plan: first, administering anti-VEGF drugs to the patient to control the abnormal intraocular angiogenesis and inflammatory response; a few days later, performing the Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) Implantation.
President He Jinxian of Foshan Aier Eye Hospital (Headquarters) stated, “For patients whose eyesight cannot be restored but are at risk of eyeball atrophy or secondary glaucoma, preserving the eye shape, relieving pain and improving quality of life have become the primary treatment goals. The Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) Implantation provides an innovative solution for such patients.”

Compared to conventional surgery, FCB implantation offers significant advantages. The procedure requires only a 4mm conjunctival incision, causes minimal tissue damage, and results in less postoperative pain and faster recovery.

3D Reconstruction of FCB Successfully Published in Clinical Ophthalmology

This research not only shortens the learning curve and lowers the technical threshold of FCB surgery, but also lays a solid foundation for its standardized promotion in primary hospitals and among special populations (such as children, pregnant women, and highly myopic patients), truly realizing a minimally invasive, precise and reproducible clinical pathway.
