Baoji Aier Eye Hospital Successfully Performs New Technique: Ultra-Minimally Invasive Rapid Treatment for Retinal Detachment

Release time: Dec 24,2025

Two days later, laser photocoagulation was performed on the retinal hole in the right eye. Postoperative examination showed the retinal hole was located on the buckle ridge with good adhesion. The patient and her family were satisfied with the postoperative outcome and expressed their gratitude to Director Li's team!

On December 12, Baoji Aier Eye Hospital successfully performed the city's first Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) surgery for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. The Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) can be used for internal treatment of retinal detachment, helping to preserve the eyeball for patients with severe ocular trauma or those dependent on silicone oil. One of its models, the Foldable Capsular Buckle (FCB), can also be used for external (episcleral) ultra-minimally invasive rapid treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, hereinafter referred to as FCB.

Director Li Qiang's team successfully implanted an FCB in a 67-year-old patient with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, successfully reattaching the patient's detached retina. As the latest surgical procedure for treating rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, FCB implantation is a special type of scleral buckle surgery characterized by minimal invasiveness and fewer complications. Postoperatively, patients can adopt free body positioning, significantly improving the overall surgical experience and providing patients with a safer and more efficient surgical option.

Case Overview

Two days ago, 67-year-old Patient S suddenly experienced a fixed shadow obstructing the vision in her right eye, causing her great concern. Her family brought her to Baoji Aier Eye Hospital for treatment. Director Li Qiang's team promptly conducted a comprehensive examination. The results showed that Patient S's right eye vision was only 0.4, with an intraocular pressure of 6mmHg. A retinal hole approximately 1 PD in size was observed at the 10:30 position in the fundus. The retina from the 9 to 12 o'clock positions showed a bluish-grey elevation, and the foveal reflex was unclear.

"The patient's condition is a typical retinal hole with detachment, which is one of the ophthalmological emergencies," Director Li explained. "The retina is like the film in a camera. Once a hole appears, fluid from inside the eye can accumulate under the retina through the hole, causing retinal detachment. Without timely treatment, the area of detachment can gradually expand. If it involves the macular area, vision can be severely impaired or even lost."

Regarding Patient S's condition, Director Li's team formulated multiple treatment plans considering her age, physical condition, and other factors. After detailed communication with Patient S and her family, and a comprehensive comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of each plan, it was finally decided to proceed with treatment using the Foldable Capsular Buckle (FCB) implantation surgery.

On the day of her admission, Director Li performed the FCB surgery on Patient S, which was completed smoothly and quickly, successfully reattaching the retina. Two days later, laser photocoagulation was performed on the retinal hole in the right eye. Postoperative examination showed the retinal hole was located on the buckle ridge with good adhesion. The patient and her family were satisfied with the postoperative outcome and expressed their gratitude to Director Li's team!
