Ophthalmology Department of Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital Takes the Lead in Performing Highly Difficult Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body (FCVB) Implantation

Release time: Jan 13,2026

Recently, at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th, the Ophthalmology Department of Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital successfully performed a Foldable Capsular Vitreous Body implantation on an over-70-year-old patient with retinal detachment. This urgently conducted highly difficult surgery not only alleviated the patient's suffering but also marked that the Ophthalmology Department of the hospital has entered a new stage in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases, making it the first medical institution in Dunhua City to carry out this new technology.

The elderly patient sought medical treatment at Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital due to blurred vision in the right eye for a week. After a detailed examination by ophthalmologists of the hospital, the patient was clearly diagnosed with retinal detachment. Considering the complexity of the condition, the Ophthalmology Department of the hospital immediately contacted Director Cui Renzhe from the medical consortium for consultation. The patient went to Yanbian Hospital to complete ultra-widefield fundus photography to find retinal breaks before returning to Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. The FCVB implantation was completed under the leadership of Director Cui from the medical consortium.

To ensure the smooth progress of the surgery, the medical and nursing team of the Ophthalmology Department of Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital immediately launched emergency preparation work, and at the same time contacted Deputy Section Chief Yin Yingxian of the Equipment Department to urgently apply for FCVB. After all preparations were completed, the surgery started on time in the operating room at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Relying on exquisite skills and tacit cooperation, this emergency surgery was successfully completed in only half an hour, with an efficiency far exceeding that of traditional retinal detachment surgeries.

It is understood that this technology is applicable to patients with early primary retinal detachment. Compared with traditional surgery, patients do not need to maintain a prone position for several months after surgery, and can also avoid subsequent secondary silicone oil removal surgery, which greatly reduces the physical and mental suffering of patients. At present, only two Grade A tertiary hospitals in our province can carry out this technology. The successful and pioneering implementation of this technology by Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is inseparable from solid guarantees in multiple aspects: on the one hand, relying on the technical support of Director Cui from the medical consortium, it has effectively overcome the key difficulties in the surgery; on the other hand, the ophthalmology team of the hospital has solid technology and rich experience, and can efficiently complete the whole process from preoperative evaluation, postoperative diagnosis and treatment to emergency disposal. At the same time, the complete equipment system has laid a solid hardware foundation for the development of the technology. In addition, the long-accumulated good reputation of the department, the deep trust of patients, and the consistent adherence to the original aspiration of medical practitioners have jointly gathered into a strong driving force for promoting technological breakthroughs and sustainable development.

Conclusion
The successful implementation of this FCVB implantation not only tested the emergency response capability and technical level of the Ophthalmology Department of Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital but also allowed local patients to access high-quality and high-level ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment services at their doorstep. In the future, the Ophthalmology Department of Dunhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital will continue to deepen technological research and refine services, bringing the hope of light to more patients with eye diseases.
