Jinanan Central Hospital Performs FCB Surgery, Offering New Treatment for Retinal Detachment Patients

Release time: Jun 18,2025

On the 21st day after the surgery, after Professor Ji Qiang evaluated the fundus condition: the retina was reattached, the retinal tear was healed, and the FCB was removed, ultimately achieving results beyond expectations. The patient's family expressed deep gratitude to the doctor.

On May 8, Professor Ji Qiang of Jinan Central Hospital successfully performed a Foldable Capsular Buckle (FCB) implantation, smoothly implanting an FCB for a patient with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. This procedure successfully reattached the patient's detached retina and improved their vision. As the latest new surgical method for treating rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, FCB implantation is a special type of scleral buckling procedure characterized by minimal invasiveness and few complications. After the surgery, patients can adopt a free posture, greatly enhancing the overall surgical experience and providing a safer and more efficient surgical option for patients.

Patient Profile
The patient is a 65 - year - old female. Recently, she noticed blurred vision, so her family took her to Jinan Central Hospital for an examination. Professor Zheng Guangying conducted an eye examination for her and found that the right eye vision was 0.02, and the fundus showed retinal detachment from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock positions, involving the macula. A fish - mouth - like tear was visible at the 9 - 10 o'clock positions, and the foveal reflex of the macula was not visible.

Due to the short onset time of the disease, the relatively fresh tear, and the patient's advanced age, the family hoped for a painless and minimally invasive treatment as much as possible. Combining the patient's condition, Professor Ji Qiang formulated an appropriate treatment plan. After fully communicating with the patient and her family, it was decided that the latest minimally invasive retinal reattachment surgery - Foldable Capsular Buckle (FCB) retinal reattachment surgery - could be performed on her.

On the second day after admission, Professor Ji Qiang's team performed right eye FCB implantation for her. The surgery only took more than 10 minutes, and the retinal reattachment was successfully completed. Two days later, laser photocoagulation was performed on the retinal tear of the right eye.

The patient had no discomfort in the eye after the surgery. Examinations showed that the retina was successfully reattached, the buckling ridge was raised, the buckling position was accurate, and the retinal tear was closed by laser. On the 21st day after the surgery, after Professor Ji Qiang evaluated the fundus condition: the retina was reattached, the retinal tear was healed, and the FCB was removed, ultimately achieving results beyond expectations. The patient's family expressed deep gratitude to the doctor.
